Procedure.
A bit of Googling reveals there are 'boring' people like me who don't like the dragon mascot (called 'Konqi') used by KDE. While I'm at it, might I also add that I don't like the penguins that keep popping up everywhere either. These cutesy mascots give the interface a 'Eurotrash' feel in my opinion and while branding and logos are important, Microsoft and Apple come across looking more 'professional' in either the home or business environment by using logos that don't look like refugee mascots from a relegated football team.

Maybe you don't agree - but I don't care, that's just my opinion and is no more valid than me saying "spinach tastes great". There will be people who do agree and people who don't. What I do know for sure is that the damn dragon irritates me whenever I log out of KDE and there are no options I can find to get rid of him.

Fortunately, it's not too hard to replace the logout picture It's called shutdownkonq.png and can be found at:

SuSE: /opt/kde3/share/apps/ksmserver/pics
kubuntu: /usr/share/apps/ksmserver/pics

The file is a 188x300 pixel PNG so all you have to do is replace this file with another of the same name. I knocked up a boring replacement in about thirty seconds which you can download from here.

To use this, or another picture, simply rename the old picture (just in case you want it back) and place your new .PNG file format picture with the shutdownkonq.png filename into the above mentioned directory.
